If you haven't seen it feel free to go find it on YouTube. I won't repost it here. Read on to see why.
The White Messiah Complex is in full force with this film. Seriously? Take one of the seminal stories from Japanese history and rejigger it with a white guy saving the day? This is shameful. As for the fantasy elements they look like fun. I'm annoyed they had to go and stick in a white guy. It's only what we white guys have been doing for centuries. Can we please let our fear of a small dick go please? /rantover /fornow
The previous was what I posted on the i09.com post featuring the trailer. I could go on about how absurd it is, but I won't I think my above commentary covers things.
Oh HOW I could go on!!

IMAGINE THIS: TIME LORD CARL SAGAN.
spaceandstuffidk:
Ohhhh, you mean this Brian Cox:

Not this one:

It is kinda easy to get those two dudes mixed up. ;)
Though, I do think the latter Cox would make an awesome time lord, too.
kaiyves:avarielle:karlika:Just sayin’.
His Ship of the Imagination can travel through time and space. That is all I’m saying.
I have been saying this for years and I’m glad someone else has realized it, too.
DOES THIS MEAN HE REGENERATED INTO BRIAN COX!?

Above is Asuka yelling at everyone who looks at this shirt: “ANTA BAKAA!” aka “YOU IDIOT!”
Below is an incredibly subtle (and in my opinion, much cooler) shirt that is the image we see when Gendo is talking to his bosses (whom ever they are) in that creepy chatroom.
Both shirts will be available later this month from Nihonju.com for $38 plus shipping. Click on the pics to pre-order yours.

Japan finds lots and lots of Rare Earth Minerals Under the Ocean Floor
thejpete:
Am I right? Anime geeks, back me up on this! ^_^
Japan Finds Vast Reserves of Rare Earth Minerals That Could Be Used to Make Solar Panels and Other Electronics
by Brit Liggett, 07/05/11
Japan just announced that they’ve discovered a deposit of rare earth minerals off their coast in the Pacific Ocean that, if commercially viable, could change the worldwide market for the expensive materials. The deposit could yield as much as 80 to 100 billion tonnes of rare earth minerals and though Japan isn’t being specific about which materials they’ve found there, it is likely to contain gold and copper. China currently holds an estimated 97% of the world’s stores of rare earth minerals, which are used in many high tech gadgets like solar panels, cell phones, television sets and vehicles. Will Japan’s find change all of that?
Just so long as they don’t find any sakuradite. ^_^

Tumblr is not Tumblr anymore. It's now a fish. WHA?
nathansgotsole:
I am a big fan of Tumblr. I am not a big fan of the above sentiment that “Tumblr is not Tumblr anymore”. Really? What is it? A fish? Is it SUPER Tumblr?
Tumblr is a tool for blogging. How the users of Tumblr choose to use it is up to each of us. Use it as you see fit and you should be OK so long as you understand other folks are going to use it the way they see fit. Don’t reblog so much, don’t just post pictures and only follow people you find interesting (whether they follow you or not) and you’ll knock out all of those gripes listed above.
- Tumblr is now a popularity contest, not a blog site.
- People send you anon-hate messages instead of understanding your situation.
- Followers make friends with you not because they really want to but for the sake of that effin’ follow back.
- Some of my friends have Tumblr so I can’t just blog the way I really do.
- All the blogs are the same. All the same pictures of pretty girls smoking and drinking and posing with all their hipster friends.
I’ve been saying this over the time…

“But it’s an iPhone, Jen!"
“But it’s an iPhone, Jen. I might be able to get an iPhone without giving any money to Apple. I’ll be living the dream.”
Ah, if you’re a tech person or even use tech in your life, you need to watch “The IT Crowd.”
And it would be awesome to have an iPhone without giving money to Apple. I dumped my AT&T contract as soon as the first unlock came out.
Of course, even if you could have an iPhone without giving money to Apple, you’d still be stuck with their “walled garden”. You can get a lot from Cydia, but not enough and I think there are plenty more free apps that are actually useful in the “garden” than in Cydia, sadly.
But seriously—check out “The IT Crowd”—it’s on Netflix. TOTALLY worth it!!

Sad but understandable choice on the future of "Sarah Jane Adventures".
For any other Sarah Jane fans who are following me.
This makes me sad, but I understand their choice. I just hope the characters we came to love in the SJA are given a new corner of the Doctor Who universe in which to play.
Failing that, at least we get six more eps of SJA to enjoy.

Elisabeth Sladen/Sarah Jane Smith RIP
Ugh—this stung my fanboy heart something fierce. Elisabeth Sladen, who played The Doctor’s companion off and on for 40 years, has passed away from cancer. Very sad.

Apparently, she worked up until quite recently, so I think we have more of Sarah Jane Smith to see, which is both wonderful and sad. 64 is too young for anyone, but especially so for someone who was still bringing good things into the world.
Read more about her passing on BBC News.
Thank you so much for your work, Elisabeth!
You will definitely be missed!!

Lois Lane, Girl Reporter
deantrippe:
What an awesome idea. I would read this as a middle-aged adult male.
Here are some notes and images from Lois Lane, Girl Reporter, a pitch for a series of illustrated young adult novels I worked on a few years ago for DC Comics. Story by me, with considerable brainstorming help from my pal John Campbell, and art by Project: Rooftop fan favorite Daniel Krall.
My wonderful editor, Chris Cerasi, was a real champion of the series, which we codenamed “Project 77,” and while we had a great time working on it and finding this secret window into the DCU, it doesn’t look like the current leadership of DC is remotely interested in this kinda thing. I thought some Lois Lane fans here on the interwebs might at least like a look at what might have been…

J-Meds for August 23, 2010 (yes I'm still catching up!)
So, I’ve often thought of anime or other Japanese media as a vice, like booze or valium, so this is why I call it “J-Meds” as in “Japanese Medicine.” :) I wonder how you say “self-medicating” in Japanese. So, anyway, here we go—these caps are all from K-ON! (that’s K-ON’s first season, note the single exclamation mark).
Sadly, I don’t remember what is written on Richan’s forehead.

Bur her expression is pretty much priceless.

Don’t know why this made me laugh out of context. It only amuses me now all these months later.

Ah, Yui. Always adorable…I want to learn to draw as well as this!
That’s it for now. I watch LOADS of anime, so expect MANY more caps, soon.
What approximately $20 got me at Book Off this weekend
That book on the left is called ?????? or Perori-chan. It’s a compilation of simply drawn comic strips. Then there’s a book about the Peanuts comic strip which I think is called “All of Snoopy’s something something”. OK, the “somethings” are just where I couldn’t translate. But literally it says “????????(kanji)(kanji)???” or “Sunupitachino(kanji)(kanji)hanashi” I think “hanashi” is talk. So maybe it’s “All of my talks with Snoopy”?
Then there’s a manga starring ????? or “Doraemon”. I’m puzzled as to why the first two characters are in katakana but the rest are in hiragana.
The big magazine in the middle is called “Weekly Shonen” (shonen=boy) and is about an INCH thick with comics—insanely great price at $1.00 used and only a couple of months old.
Then, volume 1 of “Moonlight Mile” which was recommended to me by @tomzer1 because he said it was similar to “Planetes” which is an AWESOME anime that I HIGHLY recommend. However, in this manga, there’s a group sex scene almost at the very beginning of the book! Maybe Tomzer was referring to the anime adaption of “Moonlight Mile”? O_O
And finally we have “Black Jack: The Best 12 stories by Osamu Tezuka”. If you’re not familiar with Black Jack, he is an outlaw surgeon who can basically do almost anything with a scalpel but charges you a million every time no matter how hard the procedure is. He’s a classic anime/manga character in Japan.
So, why did I spend $20 on books I can’t yet read? I’m using these books as a reason to study more. I have them on a shelf, right next to my desk, so I’ll see them always and (hopefully) feel inspired to study hard so I can one day read them.
