Holy crap--something Michele Bachmann said actually makes sense!

Of course, she’s got an anti-universal health care stance, but as itsjustsummer points out, she inadvertently embraces the pro-choice angle:

“That’s why people need to continue to go to the town halls, continue to melt the phone lines of their liberal members of Congress, and let them know, under no certain circumstances will I give the government control over my body and my health care decisions.”

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), arguing against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, inadvertently making a pro-choice argument. (via stillexperience)

See? We’re not that different after all.  Maybe someone can point out her little mistake and maybe she can see the other side, FOR ONCE. That’s the problem with too many politicians—they think they know what’s right.  Surprise, they don’t—bigger surprise: no one knows what’s right… for everyone.  That’s why protecting rights is supposed to be the government’s job, not socially engineering its citizens.

Holy cowwww!! This is the most amazing Lego castle EVER.

From Prominent Climate Change Skeptic Received Over $1 Million From Oil, Coal Companies

From today’s DemocracyNow broadcast:

Prominent Climate Change Skeptic Received Over $1 Million From Oil, Coal Companies Greenpeace has revealed that one of the world’s most prominent scientific figures to be skeptical about climate change has admitted to being paid more than $1 million in the past decade by major U.S. oil and coal companies. The climate skeptic — Willie Soon — works as an astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Centre for Astrophysics. Since 2001, he has received money from ExxonMobil, the American Petroleum Insitute and Koch Industries along with Southern, one of the world’s largest coal-burning utility companies.

I tend to slam religious types, politicians and corporate execs for being corrupt.  I guess scientists are people, too.  I wonder if any Climate Change Deniers will be looking for money trails leading to and from the sources of their evidence against Climate Change.

TSA Searches: Not just for the airport anymore!

A TSA program has conducted 8000 surprise searches of people getting on the subway, boarding ferries, or even driving their own car! And because TSA works with Immigration and Border Patrol, after being searched some people are asked about their immigration status and deported. Remember, this is for your own safety! Just don’t forget your papers.

OH yeah—I got my bag checked for “explosive residue” on my way into the NYC subway today.  One of three cops was very chatty explaining that it was just a deterrent and that my bag wouldn’t be opened.  It wasn’t and I was done in about 45 seconds.

But still…

Why do I have to submit to this?  I’m an American and am not suspected of committing any crimes.  Yet, I have to lose 45 seconds of my life so I can help fight a war on terror that I think is a joke.  America, land of the free.  As if I don’t lose enough 45-second-long chunks of my day wasted by late trains, stupid people and overworked fellow co-workers.

The internet has been liking our “Speedup” essay about how Americans are being squeezed at work—no wonder, given that many of you probably read the piece sitting at a stoplight, on the phone to your boss, while firing off a couple of emails. “I haven’t felt as ‘hell yeah’ about an article in a while,” tweeted one reader. But this reaction, from the Washington Post’s Ezra Klein, was probably our favorite.

Read the essay: All Work and No Pay.

This whole theme is one of the many things that is bringing down the Western Way of Life. Companies that keep trying to get more from their employees without giving them more.  I’m living it and see it all around me at my crappy dayjob.  It’s so frustrating because every department in the company I freelance at (yep they don’t have me on full time—cheap bastards) is overworked and under-staffed.  As a result, they do a shitty job and things are late, and that forces my department to do the same since everything comes through our department before it heads out to the client.    It’s sad, since it’s so obvious this will lower the quality of work American companies do and therefore lower their reputations.

Imagine if we got proper raises and incentives to do well—like 6 weeks paid vacation. Europe may not be perfect, but they have universal healthcare, and 6 weeks paid vacation every year.

I will just as soon as you tell me who I am!

I’m in my fourth decade and I’m still not entirely sure, myself.  So far, I’m a storyteller heavily influenced by non-American stories who finds peace for his soul when listening to the Japanese language.  Oh and I also puppeteer, draw, design custom toys, hack old gadgets and computers, and play with Lego.  I desperately want to move to Japan but really don’t want to teach English to get there. :|

I’m sure I forgot a few things… >_<

An Interesting Question...

Everything is propaganda. It’s very tiring once you start to see it.

So where to from here? When you begin to notice the bars of the cage you’ve been raised in, where to? There must be a way to liberate yourself and others from the conditioned mind.

This is an interesting question.  I’m a writer of fiction, so I escape from the propaganda that I see everywhere by creating my own. I’m still an idealist, at heart, so I throw all of it in my writing.  You can get a flavor of how I do this by reading my first completed novel.  Of course, changing the world with my fiction is my long term solution.  Short term is blogging and podcasting about the things I see wrong with the world.

It’s still propaganda, since I’m promoting my agenda for the world, but who are you going to trust?  Some rich asshole or some artist/writer fella who really does want the world to be a better place?

666cast episode 60: Obama, George W., Hitler and the End of the World, for Realz yo.

Obama and gay marriage, Obama and George W., Hitler and George W., Hitler and the end of the world as we know it.

Some links to articles and stuff mentioned in this week’s 666cast:

Backward at the FBI” opinion piece on how Obama’s FBI is worse than George W.’s.

My Ex-Gay Friend” essay about a gay guy’s gay friend who, one day, decided to not be gay.

Deploying New Tools to Stop the Hackers” Might as well be an opinion piece from since it’s all pointless and no system is, or will ever be, hack-proof.  But read it anyway, you might learn something about journalistic hacks. ;)

All Those Online Videos, Still Chasing an Audience” Another NYTimes piece—this one about that New Media Revolution which has yet to arrive.  Yeah, I’m waiting for it, too.

Obama’s Views on Gay Marriage ‘Evolving’” Yeah right.  The “free” part of “the land of the free” is still horseshit so long as we humans can’t marry other consenting humans of our choice—without condition. Yep, it’s at the NYT’s site, too.

Looking Back, Gates Says He’s Grown Wary of ‘Wars of Choice’” We had a choice to go into Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya? That’s funny, I don’t remember the American people being presented with a choice.  Listen to more about this NYT article in this week’s 666cast.

Finally, here’s the rss feed for the “Stuff You Should Know” podcast which is high on my “Podcasts You Should Listen To” list:

Here’s that article about Thomas Malthus and the Earth’s Carrying Capacity:

That’s a MUST read.  Seriously.

From the mouth of babes.

This was totally me when I was ten. I asked my Sunday School teacher if God was in the middle of the table I was sitting at and, when she said He was, I said: “Why? That’s stupid.”  I definitely doubted my atheism after that several times, but that was my first step towards complete non-belief.

666cast episode 58: the End of Our World continues! Orwellian Obama! NY Times is Our Moral Barometer! MORE!

It’s hard to move on from the end of our world since it’s still slowly happening!  Never the less, we must try. This week: how the NY Times is a sad barometer of our morals, why is a news source you MUST follow if you truly care about the world, how Obama is big-brothering all over the place, and how the ex-ceo of Blackwater is forming an international “GI Joe” team (in a bad way).
