Draw Every Day #215 8/2/12: ROBOTS of the FUTURE!

Draw Every Day #215 8/2/12: ROBOTS of the FUTURE!
I happened to be listening to the soundtrack of the "METROPOLIS" anime and I love that movie, so I decided to draw a detective robot.  Now I've got this idea for a whole film-noir story about a robot detective who falls in with a human femme fatale.  My brain.

Draw Every Day #163 6/11/12: Playpause

Draw Every Day #163 6/11/12: Playpause
Today I'm swinging in the opposite direction from yesterday again. Where as "Record" was kind of sinister, I thought his counterpart should be much more fun. Obviously this alien/robot/cyborg's role is to play back what "Record" records.

Draw Every Day 4/30/12: Robo Rabbit

Draw Every Day 4/30/12: Robo Rabbit
While attempting to make a cuter bunny design for another take on my "Nyan Bunny" character, I went in the opposite direction and imagined what robotic rabbits might look like.  So here's my answer to that question.

Draw Every Day February 15, 2012: Old Man Robot

I was trying to mimic a Japanese-style anime robot and I think I did okay before I got to the lower torso and lower arms.  From there on down, I feel like it was a big meh-ffort. :) :/  But the head and bust I'm really pretty happy with.

Draw Every Day February 8, 2012: Generator (life giving killer robot)

This is loosely based on the memory of a character I first came up with high school. He's called Generator and he's a morally ambiguous robot that causes life to spontaneously come into being with a "living ray." I need to write more :)

Creepy Evangelion-esque telepresence robot created in Japan; Second Impact Imminent

Found this yesterday on http://pinktentacle.com and was mildly creeped out by it’s appearance—but it sounds perfectly reasonable on paper:
The Telenoid R1 robot is designed to add an element of realism to long-distance communication by recreating the physical presence of the remote user. The robot’s actions mirror those of the remote user, whose movements are monitored by real-time face tracking software on the user’s computer. Users can also transmit their voice through the robot’s embedded speakers.

Yeah, but seeing that thing in the (silicone) flesh is kinda freaky. They’re going to have to do something about that thing before I’d want something like that in my home.

Maybe give it better limbs, a wig and breasts perhaps?

IRON MAN-STYLE ROBOT EXO-SUIT AVAILABLE NOW

Wow, this is pretty damn trippy:

Found this military exo-suit video at Engadget which led me to a post on the same robotic exo-suit video at Wired.

Funny how when the Japanese designed an exo-suit back in 2005, it was designed to help people who needed medical attention. An American company does it and it's all about the killing military applications. Let's hear it for innovation!

REAL LIFE HOMEBREW MECHA

Whoa--this is some crazy cool stuff. Anyone who's watched anime is familiar with what a mecha is. In case you're not one of those people, it's robot--a BIG robot. Often, humans pilot these robots. Well, a couple of guys in Alaska have put together the website neogentronyx.com to showcase the 8 foot tall mecha they built. Apparently, it can even walk--although there is a video on the site that only shows it taking a single step. Still, that's pretty damn impressive coming from someone outside of a Japanese car company!

Oh and hey, if you've got more than most people make in a year to spare, [http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=88433&item=5593908816&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW|you can buy their first mech on eBay.] Gonna go buy myself a lottery ticket ;)
