My friend Lauren Raab writes a funny recipe column in UCLA's Daily Bruin newspaper on a weekly basis--if you enjoy cooking (or are scared of cooking, like I am) you should definitely check out her past columns. However, she does myself and TheFiancee a special honor this week by writing about a recipe of ours in her column.
It's called Guaca-fishy and it's our own unique twist on the guacamole thing.
Oh and while Lauren did explain some nice backstory for avocados, she didn't mention where the Aztec word for avocados, ahuacatl, comes from. Apparently, the word "ahuacatl" is very similar to the Aztec word for testicles.
No joke! I read it somewhere.

Pal Lauren Gets Published! Yaaay!
My friend Lauren Raab got herself published in UCLA's paper, the Daily Bruin--she's going to be writing a funny cooking column for the paper and her first column as at the Daily Bruin's website right now. Check out her column on cooking potatoes for yourself! It's actually pretty damn amusing--here's an excerpt:
Oh and once she gets more columns published, you can read them all here.
If your roommate has been using the peeler to scrape calluses off the bottoms of his feet, you can just use a paring knife instead.
Actually, since that takes about twice as long, you can make your roommate do it for you. A suggestion? Be sure he washes his hands first.
While he peels the potatoes and dices them into 1-inch cubes, you should put 5 inches of water into a pot, cover it, and turn the stove up to high.
By the time you've found the offending peeler in his room and thrown it away, your roommate should have finished chopping the potatoes and the water should be boiling.
Have him carefully pour the potato cubes into the water. Oh, no, he's holding the plate too high. It's going to splash. Carefully, I said!
Apply first aid cream or a bag of frozen peas to the burns on your roommate's face and hands.
Oh and once she gets more columns published, you can read them all here.
