Scientists say 80% of the oil is still in the Gulf. Holy Fuck we've been lied to! Who saw that coming?

Another gem from Coalspeaker.com:

Ga. scientists: Gulf oil not gone, 80 pct remains

The Associated Press

Georgia scientists say their analysis shows that most of that BP oil the government said was gone from the Gulf of Mexico is still there.

The scientists say as much as 80 percent of the oil still lurks under the surface. The Georgia team said it is a misinterpretation of data to claim that oil that is dissolved is actually gone. The report from University of Georgia and other scientists came from an analysis of federal estimates.

Earlier this month federal scientists said that only about a quarter of the oil remained and the rest was either removed, dissolved or dispersed.

HOLY SHIT, WE’VE BEEN LIED TO!!

…or our government told us something that wasn’t true.

CHRIST MY WORLD WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!

No, seriously, Jesus, Son of God, explain this to me: HOW CAN OUR LEADERS BE WRONG????

>_<

Now, 10 to 1 says someone doesn’t get the sarcasm and leaves a comment telling me just how our leaders can be wrong. ;P

Absurd Disconnect much?

From coalspeaker:

President Obama attemps to convince everyone it’s safe to swim in the Gulf by not swimming in the Gulf but kind of pretending he did..

But, as the article Coalspeaker links to reports:

Yet it soon emerged that the private beach on which it was taken, off Alligator Point in St Andrew Bay, north-west Florida, isn’t technically in the gulf.

COUGHliarCOUGH

And here’s another gem from CoalSpeaker:

Tell us what you NOAA

Now we knowa this: Seafood from the Gulf not being tested for dispersants..

via coalspeaker.com

Yummy!  Coalspeaker links to a C-SPAN video that features Lisa Jackson, head of the EPA, and Larry Robinson, the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), testifying on the Hill about the use of dispersants in response to the BP Oil Disaster.

I’m sure we can trust BP and our government 100% that dispersants aren’t bad for our health!

…we’re all gonna die!

How not to prove a conspiracy (hint: it's very similar to how you don't prove God).

Yeehaw! I love me some good conspiracies, but this is kind of funny:

seriousissuescomedy asked

How come nobody in mainstream media or even on TWITTER or TUMBLR is mentioning anything about the fact that Hallibuton purchased Boots and Coots, an oilspill cleanup company, DAYS before HALLIBURTON performed a procedure on the rig that CAUSED IT TO BLOW UP? BP is the fallguy. Halliburton did this, and our leaders ALL have stock in Hallinurton. Our government is profiting from this spill.

See prisonplanet.com for more info.

I think you’re over-reaching this. Conspiracies are cool and they make sweet drama, but are rarely practical. This hits all three points.

via fuckbp.tumblr.com

I’m not saying seriousissuescomedy is wrong, but dude—citing prisonplanet.com as proof of a conspiracy is a LOT like citing the Bible as your proof of God. It’s not exactly the same, but puh-lease—if that’s your only source, you might as well be trusting the Bible for all of your “facts.”

Or, almost as bad, Fox News.

Yeesh…

Oh and… politicians are making money from companies like Halliburton?

YOU DON’T SAY!!

Next thing you’re going to try to tell me is that they started the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq just to make money for themselves!

AS IF!

How we rush in where angels fear to tread... for no good reason...

underpaidgenius:

“We are way, way behind when it comes to the hard work of preventing accidents and responding to these catastrophes when they happen. With the deep-water oil drilling, we allowed the technological advances to drive the process at a rate that was unsafe, and we got really badly burned. The potential of a nuclear catastrophe is a major disaster in waiting.”

—

Dr. Irwin Redlener, the director of the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health

Now, I’m fine with marching forward, blindly, even stupidly, if the benefits are obvious.  More oil doesn’t make for much in the Benefits Department, especially when we all know we need to cut back.

Of course, the reason we don’t cut back is because of petrodollars taking up so much of our economy, but if we don’t admit this fact openly we will never get to a point where we can plan for a future without any oil at all.

Make no mistake—we are running out of oil.  The BP Oil Disaster is a perfect indicator—why do you think such deep water drilling was even happening? Because the more shallow, safer drilling (or say, drilling on LAND) can no longer be done because we’ve already used up all the oil.

So, let’s go crazy into *new* territory—not into entirely familiar, more dangerous territory.  Acceptable losses for daring things that push us toward a new future are fine. Losses to maintain the status quo should not be acceptable at all.

Prayer: How to do nothing and still think you’re helping

Talk about doing something just to look busy.  Puh-lease.  I’m pretty sure if the “oil experts” at BP can’t stop this leak, “Prayers” to “God” aren’t gonna do it.
