Sheesh. It's like politicians just don't get it sometimes.
Remember when Joe Lieberman lost his primary and ran as an independent? This is sort of like that, only worse. See, when good old Joe decided to run as an independent he was kind of blowing off the wishes of the people of his own party who would have voted for him if they wanted him to run for the office again. In other words, his own people said "we don't want you as our leader" and he's like "I don't care."
Sure, he won, but in today's world of dodgy digital ballot boxes and the pretty shitty showing of his competition you have to wonder how much the people of his state really wanted him as a senator for another term. Here comes Bush pulling the same kind of crap. In [http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,,-6439759,00.html|a February 25, 2007 article] from AP.org and available at http://Guardian.co.uk good old Condi "White" Rice has said that Bush probably will do whatever the hell he wants regardless of whether or not Congress revokes the original resolution to invade Iraq. Well, "revoke" is too strong a word. They want to retool it so that Bush will be a castrated commander-in-chief. Which is fine with me.
Essentially, they're talking about rewriting that resolution so that it let's Bush use troops in Iraq only for training Iraqi military and police and help rebuild infrastructure. Don't get your hopes up, though. If they were to do something like this they'd be doing their job, which is something I just bet they can't bring themselves to do.
The real point here is that Condi and Company think they can do whatever the hell they please. However, if Bush goes and has US troops in Iraq doing more killing in the face of this freshly rewritten resolution, then they'd kinda have to impeach him.
I mean, after such a bold, in-your-face, breaking-of-the-law event as that what good would any laws be after that?
OH yeah, and one other thing: remember [http://thepete.com/digging-the-us-constitution/|my post about people on the Internet actually debating the US Constitution? from a week ago?] Well, the above AP article that I linked to was [http://digg.com/politics/Rice_Bush_will_not_abide_by_legislation_to_limit_Iraq_war|Digged as well] and there's quite an interesting debate to read on the Digg page. It's great to see people on the 'net actually debating something worthwhile. Sadly, there are still a fair number of trolls, aka, people who are jerks for the sake of being jerky. Still, it's better than arguing about what color lightsaber Mace Windu had or why Britney Spears is a ho.
