Let's call the whole thing off... I wish...
You may recall [http://thepete.com/conservative-tells-the-truth/|my post from August 1, 2006] featuring a clip of Watergate figure John Dean on the Daily Show. He was on to talk about his new book Conservatives Without a Conscience. In his book he delves into the idea that fascism could happen in the United States. He apparently provides a goodly stack of evidence that strongly suggests that a Nazi-like fascism could, in fact, happen in the US.
Now, back on August 15, 2006, Dean was on Democracy Now also, to plug his new book, but he was able to go into a bit more detail with DN! host Amy Goodman.
Check out the clip:

One thing that Dean said in this interview puzzled me. He said "Are we on the road to fascism? No. The problem is, we are very close to that."
I'm not sure I see the difference. Am I just losing my mind or are more and more conservatives saying things like "The sky isn't blue, it's a color somewhere in between green and indigo."
Of course, the real thing to be concerned with here is how Dean has uncovered scientific evidence that we have fascists running things in the United States Government. In the clip above he explains that with the Bush Administration we have "an imperial presidency on steroids."
He goes on to explain how the White House is unchecked by Congress.
Huh... neat.
Quote: “Are we on the road to fascism? No." It's called double talk, Pete. Why are you so puzzled about something, John Dean, has done all his life? He was Richard M. Nixon's lawyer after all.
ReplyDeleteBut if you listen to everything else he's saying, he's clearly saying we're in deep, deep trouble. It just seems odd for him to get scared and back down from stating what really seems to be obvious--that we are, indeed, already a fascist state--just not one as bad as say, George Orwell wrote about...
ReplyDeleteSorry, when people get fired for stating their opinions on politics (regardless of their leaning), kicked off of airplanes for being Arab with an Arabic T-shirt on, and get visited by the Secret Service just because you post on your LJ that you hate the guy in the White House, that's fascism folks!
Also: dont' forget my post on [http://thepete.com/rumsfeld-terrorists-are-fascists/|Rumsfeld's recent words]. When someone in power tells you not to question things, that's pretty damn fascist, too.
Here is an example of another Dean, Kevin Phillips. (If you don’t know who he is here is some of his early background. He first became known for his 1969 book, The Emerging Republican Majority, written in 1967 and 1968, and used by Richard Nixon in his successful 1968 presidential campaign. The Emerging Republican Majority predicted a new era of GOP control of the presidency based on the realignment of the South. Newsweek described it as “the political bible of the Nixon Administration.â€) He just left the the party and is sounding the same things as Dean now. He and his old Nixon pals like Dean are looking for some John Mc Cain 08′â€middle political road†work. It’s called padding the resume. Watch him come back in a year or so and he and Dean both will be working for Mc Cain. Either one does not truly believe in what they say in public. He may have points that you agree with and you are in the demographic he is catering too. That’s why Dean, and others like him, are saying in public what they are right now; it’s all a big gaaaaaaaaaaaame.
ReplyDeleteI think you're oversimplifying. They may have their machinations, but if we don't all just sit back and let them have their way, we can use their machinations to our advantage. McCain is the biggest Bushite there is right now. He's absurdly partisan and if he tries to run in 2008 he's easily beatable based on how quickly he went from tell Bush he should be ashamed of himself during the 2000 race to being Bush's butt-buddy at every debate in 2004.
ReplyDeleteThe point is a conservative is saying we live in a proto-fascist state. That's advantageous for those of us who want to see Bush, Cheney, and friends, impeached and out of the White House. So, I say: HURRAY, DEAN!
Dean, writes speculative fiction for the "group" not for you and me. He does this in order to find which way the wind may blow over the next two years and then reports back in the "group meetings" were the money should go next election and so forth; that's what Dean and others like him do; middle management market research, so to speak. That is some teams are on the left, center and right and one will have just a little more money than all the rest who will win. He is saying really, "I'm going with a center team" (Because that's where I'm sure he was sent to go by the group.) McCain, beatable? You and I don't get to really pick. They are all of the same people. If McCainis is where they will put most of the money this time, that is who will be it in 08. Most people vote who they are told to vote for, and that's just the way it is. :(
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't seem that well organized to me. I think your judgement is right on the roles everyone is playing, but the idea that it's a concerted, organized plan is something I don't see proof of, myself. Doesn't mean it's not true, of course.
ReplyDeleteDude, you got to watch that link to that vid I posted. I have family who worked for Aramco by the way; way up in Aramco. It's real and it's orginized, and no joke; it's all about money; no conspiracy; they don't need one. They own it all; the whole casino!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, man--which video? But yeah, I know it's all about the money--the conspiracy-part came in back when all this stuff got started (well, this time around) and now it only gets illegal when they lie about it.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't know what Aramco even is.

ReplyDeleteWell the vid was pulled, sorry, I'm still looking in to why they pulled it. "Money Masters" it was called. Now there is a program with the same name being hawked on TV right now with the same name, but it's nothing connected with the real "Money Masters" vid. It was made by a guy named, Bill Still, if that name means anything to you.
