MOBILE PHONES GIVE YOU CANCER AND PRAYER WON'T HELP

Two new studies suggest two things regarding your health.

1) Extended mobile phone can give you a brain tumor

2) People praying for your health won't help a damn, in fact, it might make you more sick.

First, from [http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060331/sc_nm/phones_dc_3|a March 31, 2006 article] from Reuters.Com and News.Yahoo.Com:
The use of mobile phones over a long period of time can raise the risk for brain tumors, a new Swedish study said on Friday, contradicting the conclusions of other researchers.

...

researchers at the Swedish National Institute for Working Life said they looked at the mobile phone use of 905 people between the age of 20 and 80 who had been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and found a link.

"A total 85 of these 905 cases were so-called high users of mobile phones, that is they began early to use mobile and, or wireless telephones and used them a lot," the study said.

"The study also shows that the rise in risk is noticeable for tumors on the side of the head where the phone was said to be used," it added.

According to the article this contradicts findings of the Dutch Health Council and a four-year survey from Britain. Personally, I think if this were true most of the city of Tokyo would be suffering from brain tumors by now. I'd like to see if there is any correlation between the number of brain tumors in Tokyo now and the number of brain tumors in Tokyo before the cell-phone boom.

Next up we have [http://today.reuters.com/news/newsarticle.aspx?type=domesticNews&storyid=2006-03-30T204217Z_01_N30395850_RTRUKOC_0_US-PRAYER.xml&rpc=22|a March 30, 2006 article] from Reuters.Com that reports on the usefulness of people praying for you when you are sick. From the article:
A study of more than 1,800 patients who underwent heart bypass surgery has failed to show that prayers specially organized for their recovery had any impact, researchers said on Thursday.

In fact, the study found some of the patients who knew they were being prayed for did worse than others who were only told they might be prayed for -- though those who did the study said they could not explain why.

The patients in the study at six U.S. hospitals included 604 who were actually prayed for after being told they might or might not be; another 597 patients who were not prayed for after being told they might or might not be; and a group of 601 who were prayed for and told they would be the subject of such prayer.

The praying was done by members of three Christian groups in monasteries and elsewhere -- two Catholic and one Protestant -- who were given written prayers and the first name and initial of the last name of the prayer subjects. The prayers started on the eve of or day of surgery and lasted for two weeks.

Among the first group -- who were prayed for but only told they might be -- 52 percent had post-surgical complications compared to 51 percent in the second group, the ones who were not prayed for though told they might be. In the third group, who knew they were being prayed for, 59 percent had complications.

After 30 days, however, the death rates and incidence of major complications was about the same across all three groups, said the study published in the American Heart Journal.

So, GOOD GOD, STOP PRAYING FOR SICK PEOPLE!!

I wouldn't say this is proof of there being no God--just that if there is a God he's an even bigger dickhead than I thought.
