Just now listenning to yesterday's Democracy Now podcast. Turns out Bush's Supreme Court nom Roberts was one of the guys that told Bush that blowing off the Geneva Conventions for "enemy combatants" was cool. He was also a member of the ultra-con group the Federalist Society (I think that's what they're called).
Sounds like this guy isn't as moderate as he was initially portrayed.
BIG SURPISE THERE, BOY!!
Nobody ever said Roberts was a moderate. Bush said he was going to appoint an "originalist" and by all accounts that's exactly what he's done. That means a conservative, and everybody knows it.
ReplyDeleteWell, my impression was something different. Roberts has a very small papertrail, but came across as a bland white guy. At first glance, he wasn't the obvious "bad idea" type of guy like Gonzales, Rice and Bolton (and Hughes, too).
ReplyDeleteNow it seems like he's just as bad an idea as those others...
But thanks for posting, Scott! Sounds like we disagree on the nom, but I appreciate you posting nonetheless.
