TORTURE IN THE USA--for decades

Wow, I'm glad I'm not black!

SIGH.

Turns out there have been 135 black men who have been tortured by Chicago cops over the span of 2 decades. Here's a clip from [http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=06/05/09/1415210|a transcript] at DemocracyNow.Org:
ItΓ’€™s called Area 2. And for nearly two decades beginning in 1971, it was the epicenter for what has been described as the systematic torture of dozens of African-American males by Chicago police officers. In total, more than 135 people say they were subjected to abuse including having guns forced into their mouths, bags places over their heads, and electric shocks inflicted to their genitals. Four men have been released from death row after government investigators concluded torture led to their wrongful convictions.

Yet the case around Area 2 is nowhere near a resolution -- to date, not one Chicago police officer has been charged with any crime.

Weeeeee!

What's even better is that this isn't just a few bad apples, it's a whole stack of guys and no one cares. In other words, it's systematic and the system is protecting itself. After all, who do you go to when it's the cops committing the crimes? In an ideal world you can trust the people who protect you. However, in our world, you can trust absolutely no one and, as I've said before, it's not that "the truth is out there" it's that "the truth isn't worth a damn."

This story apparently broke way back in the pre-internets days of 1990 yet no one cares. Apparently racism is more alive and well than even the cynical likes of me would have imagined.

Between this story and the guy in NYC who got literally reamed up the ass with a broomstick by NY cops you wonder if this sick shit goes on in every city in America without anyone knowing about it.

This is definitely fodder for my "it's time to move on" moment. More on that, soon...
