Republican Congressman Bill Young's wife, Beverly, was also told to leave by Capitol police for wearing a shirt that read "Support the Troops: Defending Our Freedom."
Today Young, the chairman of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, decried the incident on the House floor, saying, "shame, shame," and holding up the shirt his wife had been wearing.
Young later told reporters he agreed with the rule prohibiting demonstrations in the Capitol but said he doesn't think wearing a T-shirt constitutes a demonstration.
I agree--wearing a T-shirt is like nothing. It's only protesting if it's bright green or has flashing LEDs on it or something. Just having a T-shirt on that displays a message is simply being dressed. The fact that both of these women were ejected from the speech says something powerful about our government. Freedom of speech is fine, just don't let it even vaguely interrupt the any politician's speech. Forget that it might be the only way to get attention from them, forget that you may not even be protesting for real.
Forget your urge to express bloody well anything in the Capital gallery.
I consider this big brothery because it's government squelching any free speech. Way to go, big bro!

In the early days of the Senate's impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton in January 1999, a Pennsylvania man named Dave Delp was removed by the Capitol police from the Senate gallery for wearing a t-shirt that said, "Clinton doesn't inhale, he sucks."
The Pennsylvania school teacher was yanked out of a VIP Senate gallery and briefly detained during the impeachment trial for wearing a T-shirt with graphic language dissing President Clinton.
I've never said the suckiness of the US government began with Bush Jr.
