KATRINA DISASTER CONTINUES

I was listening to the Democracy Now podcast yesterday and got to listen to how Katrina survivors are about to get kicked out of their government-paid-for hotels because keeping survivors in hotels, according to Department of Homeland Security head, Skeletor Michael Chertoff, it's a very expensive program.

OK, let me get this straight:

1) We can drop $400+ billion on giving freedom to the peoples of Afghanistan and Iraq.

2) We CAN'T afford to keep American citizens who lost their homes in a massive disaster in hotel rooms any longer because it's too expensive.

I always thought the purpose of government was to secure and protect human rights by doing everything from providing defense from enemies to providing infrastructure so we can all eat food, sleep under a roof and generally pursue happiness.

Does anyone else have a problem with the American government putting all this emphasis on Iraq while it ignores the needs of actual American citizens?

Our government is letting the American people down across the board.

They let 911 happen.

They took us to a war that didn't need to happen because Saddam was no threat.

No Iraq nukes.

Afghanistan has NOT vanquished the Taliban.

Osama is still out there.

Al Qaeda is either still a threat or is on the run--the Bush Admin can't make up its mind as to which it is.

Over a year before Katrina struck, scientists knew how bad it would be if a Katrina-sized storm were to hit New Orleans, yet the Bush Administration did nothing to help New Orleans evacuate.

The deficit is through the roof.

The National Debt is through the roof.

Bush has violated covert propaganda laws (he's produced pro-Bush-program commercials masquerading as news stories).

Bush has been accused of breaking the law by wiretapping American citizens without a warrant.

The Republicans are under serious fire for their connection with Jack Abramoff who has admitted his guilt in bribing politicians.

What the fuck else do we need here?
