PAT ROBERTSON IS A TWO-FACE

I'm an Atheist but I don't fault people for accepting explanations for the universe that really have no supporting evidence beyond the fact that everyone else believes them. We can all believe what we want, in my opinion, and unless that belief is used to harm the rights of other people, I see no problem with believing whatever you want.

The key word here is "belief."

Belief is different from knowledge. However, Pat Robertson believes he knows what's on God's mind.

Pat Robertson is some sort of Christian leader. He acts like he is tight with God and knows what's on God's mind. Well, check out what SeattlePI.com has [http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1110AP_Robertson_Evolution.html|reported in an article] about Robertson:

"I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God. You just rejected him from your city," Robertson said on the Christian Broadcasting Network's "700 Club."

Earlier, the same article explains:

Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson warned residents of a rural Pennsylvania town Thursday that disaster may strike there because they "voted God out of your city" by ousting school board members who favored teaching intelligent design.

So, millions of blind Robertson followers will hear his words and decide that those people in PA are damned. They'll "worry" for the souls of those poor people in PA who were influenced by the devil enough to vote "God" out of their schools.

If they were to actually worry about those people instead of the fake "worry," in quotes, they'd be happy for those Pennsylvanians who took part in the process and chose their own destinies, regardless of whether "God" was part of it or not. After all, God gave us free will. Christians and Robertson-followers should at least be happy that these people have used the free will God gave them to make decisions that have not inflicted harm on others--unlike so many other people on this planet who have done the opposite.

This is what disgusts me about the way "Christians" and "conservatives" are dealing with things. They are all so fast to condemn an idea or a person based on the most basic of criteria.

Remember the golden rule? "Do not do unto others what you would not have them do unto you."

This is called the "golden rule" because it trumps every other guideline for how we should live our lives.

Would you want someone to tell you your beliefs are wrong?

I wouldn't.

Effectively, that's what Robertson and his followers have done by saying "it's your funeral!"

There is more to life than this black & white arguing that so many people do today.

In fact, to condemn a person or idea based on something Robertson says is downright childish.

What's extra funny about Robertson-followers is that most of them are unaware that he is, in fact, a massive businessman with all sorts of money interests that he never really talks about. I'm currently reading Greg Palast's The Best Democracy Money Can Buy and in it is a chapter on Robertson and how chin-deep he is in all sorts of questionable money deals. So, while Robertson claims to be a man of God, he doesn't tell people that he's also a man of "Green."

Taking this into consideration, you have to wonder if the policies he endorses are less about what God wants and more about what his broker wants. Think about when [http://thepete.com/pat-robertson-on-crack/|Robertson called for the assassination of democratically elected Venezuelan president, Hugo Chavez]. Did he call for the assassination because Chavez was really a physical threat to the US? Or to the principles of Christianity? Or to anyone at all?

Or did Robertson call for Chavez' assassination because killing a democratically elected leader who doesn't cow-tow to American interests would help Robertson's bank account?

See, this is not a black & white world we live in. People are lying (or at the very least failing to be upfront) all around us.

Really, there is no one we can trust aside from people who have proven that truth and justice are their main interests.

I can't think of too many people who have done that lately.
