Hey, the Military-Industrial Complex DOES Run the USG!

So, I'm browsing my friend Lisa Rein's website yesterday and I see that she's got [http://www.onlisareinsradar.com/archives/002531.php#002531|a really cool piece up] about how, on a recent 60 Minutes, Andy Rooney pointed out that Eisenhower was right when he warned us about the military-industrial complex all those years ago. Rooney also points out that the US is spending well over $5 billion a month to keep the war going in Iraq.

A MONTH!!

We must ask just what the fuck are we securing here?

At this point, I say it had better fricken be the oil because that might begin to pay us back for all this money we're spending.

What exactly did the Ikester warn us about? Here's a bit from Lisa's post:
We had a great commander in WWII, Dwight Eisenhower. He became President, and on leaving the White House in 1961 he said this:

"We must guard against the aquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disasterous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist."

Well, Ike was right. That's just what's happened.

Anyway, so it's a cool post--[http://www.onlisareinsradar.com/archives/002531.php#002531|go check it out] for a full transcript, audio and video from Rooney's bit on 60 Minutes.
