AP Poll: Voters Skeptical About Election
Memories of Florida's contested 2000 presidential election and a growing number of pre-election lawsuits are making Americans skeptical about a voting process they once took for granted. Six in 10 of those surveyed in an Associated Press poll say it's likely there will not be a clear winner in the presidential race by Nov. 3 — the day after the election. About half say they fear the results will be challenged in court, according to the poll conducted for the AP by Ipsos Public Affairs. (AP/Yahoo News)
New Florida vote scandal feared
by Greg Palast A secret document obtained from inside Bush campaign headquarters in Florida suggests a plan - possibly in violation of US law - to disrupt voting in the state's African-American voting districts, a BBC Newsnight investigation reveals. Two e-mails, prepared for the executive director of the Bush campaign in Florida and the campaign's national research director in Washington DC, contain a 15-page so-called "caging list". It lists 1,886 names and addresses of voters in predominantly black and traditionally Democrat areas of Jacksonville, Florida. (BBC News)

Partisan tension in SBC
A political frenzy spurred by the upcoming presidential election that has commanded nationwide attention has made its way to San Benito County, with the destruction and theft of Republican presidential campaign signs. Sometime between Oct. 12 and Oct. 16 unknown suspects vandalized a large Bush/Cheney campaign sign posted in the 700 block of McCray Street, spraying vulgarities denouncing the president, according to a Hollister police report. Democrats file 9 suits in Florida
Democrats in Florida already are pursuing nine election-related lawsuits, accusing state election officials of conspiring to disenfranchise minority voters. Led by the Florida Democratic Party, the People for the American Way, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and the AFL-CIO, the lawsuits target, among others, Florida Secretary of State Glenda Hood, who was appointed by Republican Gov. Thousands Of Lawyers Prepare For Battle In Florida
Lawyers on both sides of the political divide are armed for legal battle leading up to Election Day and thereafter in a state where the lawsuits have already piled up. Many of the attorneys who were central to the battle for Florida in the protracted 2000 presidential count are back again for the contentious race between President Bush and his Democratic opponent, Sen. John Kerry. Most of the lawsuits filed against the state so far have been by individuals, such as U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Fla., or civil rights organizations on issues of manual recounts on touch-screen machines and incomplete voter registration forms. But the legal teams for Bush and Kerry are ready for a potential showdown after the polls close Nov. 2. (local6.com)

Last week G2 launched Operation Clark County to help readers have a say in the American election by writing to undecided voters in the crucial state of Ohio.
