ZARQAWI INCITING CIVIL WAR?

OK, by way of Empire Notes I came across an interesting blog called Under the Same Sun. It seems like a pretty good blog, but one thing Rahul over at EN mentioned to check out on UTSS was a post by Zeynep about the possibility of Zarqawi possibly trying to incite an Iraqi civil war. Zeynep points out that Zarqaqi doesn't seem to be targetting USMil specifically, but in fact strikes Shia. He theorizes that Zarqawi is trying to kill of the Shia while doing so under the guise of justified insurgency against an occupier. You should definitely read the original post to get a more detailed version of this theory. (Zeynep's really done his homework.)

The reason I'm blogging about this is because of something that struck me as I read Zeynep's piece. The Bush 43 Admin has said that they can't pull out of Iraq now because if they did, a civil war would result. So, the threat of an Iraqi civil war (and the likelihood of it) allows the USGov a bit of collateral to stay in Iraq for longer. Essentially, the USGov benefits because they want to stay there. So, why is Zarqawi helping Bush and Co get what they want?
