Got a Band? Got a Record Deal? Now You Don't Need One!

As a writer one of the things that bugs me is how the mega-corps decide what gets made and what doesn't. They often skip over new ideas and sink money into projects that are "proven" to work. Why take a chance?

They should take a chance because without truly new content art stagnates and stops inspiring people to bother with anything in their lives.

The good news is that the powers-that-be have yet to get a real control over this wonderful snowball rolling down a hill better known as the Internet.

Enter TuneCore.com.

It's a company that will let you get your music on iTunes and let you make all of the money from the sales of your music on iTunes. TuneCore.com charges you, the artist, $8 a year, per album and they let you keep all of the rights to your own music.

Sure, you have to deal with the marketing side of things, but hey, at least you can make some money off of being creative--which is really what we're all after, right?

That reminds me. I need to go work on some self-publishing projects over at CafePress.com and Lulu.com. :D

  1. Hello Pete, from a fellow Pete,

Thanks for understanding how our new business works. Truth is, it's high time the industry stopped keeping people OUT of distribution channels and started letting them in. We hope TuneCore will lead the way. It already has. :)

If you or your readers have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. Just email me.

    Thanks again!
