Unidentified gunmen attacked the offices of an Italian oil company in the Niger Delta today, sparking a firefight that killed eight policeman and a passerby, company and security officials said.
The attack on Agip, a subsidiary of the Italian energy company, Eni, came as the militant group holding four foreign oil workers hostage said the men, including a Briton, were in good health but that there were no plans to release them.
Agip officials in Nigeria said the gun battle happened this afternoon in the city of Port Harcourt on Nigeria's west coast.
