UN BACKS THE $100 LAPTOP

Good news for followers of the $100 laptop being developed for kids in developing nations by Nicholas Negroponte and his team--according to [http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/26/un-to-back-negropontes-100-laptop/|a January 26, 2006 post] at Engadget.com, the UN Development Program has put its support behind the project that promises one laptop per kid in 3rd world countries. Sure, the UN's a mess these days, but this will still be helpful, the Engadget post says, because of the UN's ability to distribute the laptop around the world.

Pretty sweet--I just hope that once they're done giving these things to all these poor kids they'll let us "rich" folks pick 'em up. Hell, I'll pay $200 for one, then Negroponte can take the extra $100 he gets from me and give another kid a free laptop.
